Since 1921 the historic Ma Deeters has stood at the corner of M72 and Deeter Road. In this segment that first aired nationally November 18th, 2014 on the RFD TV Network, they visit with the current management. We learn about the past, present and hopeful future of Ma Deeters. Ma Deeter’s, a historic log cabin bar and restaurant in Luzerne, Michigan, burned down in the early morning hours of\u00a0October 1, 2015<\/strong>.\u00a0The fire destroyed the wood structure, which was a landmark in the community for nearly 100 years. A man who was parked at the store, waiting for a friend, called for help when he saw the fire. Firefighters were only a few minutes away, but by the time they reached the scene, the two-story wood structure was engulfed in flames. “That one will make you pucker,” Luzerne Fire Chief Duane Roddy said Friday, Oct. 2. “There was ‘Perma Log’ over real logs, whole-wood interior – there was no stopping it.” Ma Deeter’s, a historic place popular with locals, visitors and outdoorsmen,\u00a0burned to the ground early Thursday<\/a>, its charred wood collapsing into the basement. Roddy said firefighters didn’t know what to expect after getting the initial call. They thought it might be a small house fire. But as soon as crews arrived around 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Roddy sought help from neighboring fire departments. “It’s such a landmark but there was no saving it,”<\/a> Roddy said. Firefighters were on scene until 6:30 p.m. Thursday, then returned Friday morning. There are still hot spots, but there has been no rekindling of the fire. State police fire marshals have also spent the last two days investigating.
